2 cups long-grain basmati rice
4-5 cups water
2-3 green cardamom pods
1-2 black cardamom pods
2-3 cloves
1-inch cinnamon stick
1 bay leaf
Salt to taste
For Layering and Garnish:

1/2 cup fried onions (birista)

A  pinch of saffron .

2 tablespoons ghee or melted butter

Mint leaves for garnishing.

Mix it well.
